Start with the city’s defining places

Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan

Walk through the park and fortress complex for broad views over the confluence of the Sava and Danube. Allow time for the gates, walls and monuments rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.

Knez Mihailova and Republic Square

The central pedestrian route connects Kalemegdan with the National Museum area and nearby historic streets. It is a useful orientation point for a first visit.

Temple of Saint Sava

This monumental Orthodox church is one of Belgrade’s best-known landmarks. The surrounding Vračar district is also worth exploring for cafés and local streets.

Zemun and Gardoš

Walk the Danube promenade and climb towards Gardoš for a different perspective on the city. Zemun works well as a relaxed half-day visit.

Museums

Consider the National Museum, Museum of Yugoslavia, Nikola Tesla Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art. Check official opening hours and ticket procedures before visiting.
